Social and Behaviour Change Communication or SBCC is a key component in development programmes and impacts their results and outcomes. SBCC is made up of a complex mosaic of innovations, experiments and partnerships to shift norms, change behaviours and amplify voices.

The consultation on Investing in SBCC – An imperative organized by New Concept Centre for Development Communication (NCCDC) along with FHI 360, Pathfinder International , Population Foundation of India, Sambodhi,  and Unicef, held in Delhi, India International Centre on 2nd May 2018 provided an immersive environment critical to this critical agenda setting. It provided space to share ideas on elucidated the recognition that SBCC is a critical component of every development programme.

The consultation clearly elucidated the recognition of SBCC as a critical component of every development programme and need for planning and investing in it throughout the programme cycle.

The presentations and deliberations at the consultation looked at:

  • What should be the investments be in SBCC for sustainable developmental outcomes? (Both in terms of financial and human capital)?
  • What should be the guidelines and basis for investing more in SBCC?
  • How will the guidelines be governed by factors influencing scalability and sustainability?

By bringing together nearly 70 professionals from UN organisations, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, government officials, donors and the private sector and engaging them on these issues, the consultation provided recommendations for improving current investments in SBCC.
